FNQ CUP
The Inter-district Meg Nunn Matchplay event will no longer be held, which is very disappointing for those women who love the challenge of Matchplay competition. The Meg Nunn tournament provided an opportunity for talented players to improve all aspects of their game and to represent their district in an exciting, challenging, and demanding event. The Ryder Cup/Solheim Cup format had long been spoken about as a replacement for the Meg Nunn tournament. While it could not work with 7 teams, it is possible for 2 teams - hence the origin of the FNQ Cup.
Information and nominations were sought from all clubs in the district in May. After some fine tuning, two teams emerged. The northern team "The Daintree's" and the southern team "The Cassowaries". The inaugural FNQ Cup was played at Mareeba on 27/28 July. Saturday's play was 4BBB Matchplay and Foursomes Matchplay. Sunday's play was Singles Stroke Matchplay.

The "Daintree's Frog's" team included players from Mareeba, HMB, Mossman, Mirage, and PSR clubs, played against the "Cassowaries" team with players from Atherton, Cairns, Cardwell, El Arish, Gordonvale, Innisfail, Millaa Millaa, Ravenshoe and Tully clubs.
The two days featured some great golf that showcased the skill and determination of both teams. The play also exhibited the comradery of women's golf.
Saturdays morning session was a 4BBB Matchplay event followed by the afternoon session of Foursomes Matchplay. Both team's fought hard to earn points for their team.
Sunday's play was exciting with players going head to head in singles matches.
Follow the completion of play a Presentation and lunch was enjoyed by players.
The overall winning team was The Daintree Frog's.
Both team's expressed their support for this event to continue in 2025 and beyond.
