FNQ Womens Golf

Far North Queensland District Ladies Golf Association

Day 3 Meg Nunn 2017

Meg Nunn Salver 2017

Hosted by Brisbane and District

at McLeod Country Golf Club.

Monday 11th – Friday 15th September 11.

Day 3

After a well earned rest on Wednesday, when the team recharged their batteries, partaking in both retail and laughter therapy watching girly movies, the FNQ Froggies got straight back to business in very challenging conditions. Brisbane put on a very windy day for the third day of the Meg Nunn tournament, with hats flying away, balls blowing off their marks on the green and even the many birds on the course struggling in the conditions.

Our first match this morning was against Central Queensland & Central Highlands. First out was Carly playing 5, followed by Jacqui – 4, Erina – 3, Marion – 2 and Sai at no. 1. The girls all played very close matches with most going to the 18th, unfortunately we ended up on the wrong side of the ledger losing all matches.

The girls had very little time to reflect on the morning’s events, having to back up straight away for the afternoon session against North Queensland, closest in location to the FNQ Froggies but still a fierce but friendly rivalry exists. Our team for the afternoon was Carly at 5, Christelle – 4, Jacqui – 3, Erina – 2 and Marion at 1. Again our girls took most of the games to the 18th, showing true froggie grit and ended up with 2 losses and 3 squares for the afternoon.

As always FNQ and NQ came together after the matches to congratulate each other on our games. Reflecting over the game with a beverage of choice!!!

Brisbane has a bye tomorrow with all remaining districts playing in the morning before the presentation at lunch time. Brisbane District have put themselves in the winning position after todays matches but tomorrow will see the minor placing’s being sorted.

We will all be looking forward to the 2018 Meg Nunn at Rockhampton

Kapten Katrin has managed to snap a few pics of the girls in action and we will post them below.

Meg Nunn 2017 Day 2

Day 2

Meg Nunn Salver 2017

Hosted by Brisbane and District

at McLeod Country Golf Club.

Monday 11th – Friday 15th September 11.

Day 2

Brisbane put on perfect conditions for the second day of the Meg Nunn tournament, a big one for our FNQ team, playing 36 holes against two very strong teams, Brisbane and District (B&D) in the morning and Gold Coast (GC) in the afternoon.

Our team for the morning playing B&D was Sai at 1, Marion – 2, Erina – 3, Christelle – 4 and Carly at 5. Our girls had really tough matches and fought valiantly, however each going down, giving B&D a clean sweep for the morning. Marion in true form took her opponent to the 18th hole.

The FNQ Froggies backed up for the afternoon against GC, with Sai at 1, Marion – 2, Erina – 3, Jacque – 4 and Carly at 5. Again very tough and hard fought matches with Carly, Jacqui, Erina and Marion all going to the 18th and Sai 17th. The girls ended up squaring their match against GC each taking 3.5 points. Carly squared, Jacqui and Marion both 1 up with Erina 1 down and Sai going down 2/1.

Highlights for the day included a number of wildlife encounters, seeing turtles on the 3rd, water dragons on the 6th & 7th (personal favourites of Sai and Ana!) and yes believe it or not deer on the 16th. Kapten Katrin managed to snap a pic, just in case you don’t believe us! A few of us also saw a fox on the 4th fairway and certainly had to look twice to confirm 😀

However the really special moments of the day were all golfing, both in our afternoon matches against GC. Erina winning the par 5 3rd with an eagle, sinking a metre and a half putt. Marion on the 18th very nearly sinking a hole in 1! This was witnessed by much of the FNQ froggies, the GC team and supporters and others in the gallery. The very near perfect shot hit the flag and just bounced off, a great way to win her match.

Meg Nunn Salver 2017 – Day 1

Meg Nunn Salver 2017

Hosted by Brisbane and District

at McLeod Country Golf Club.

Monday 11th – Friday 15th September.

Welcome to the first update from FNQDLGA on the progress of this year’s FNQ Meg Nunn team. Saturday morning saw us all meet at Cairns airport to fly to Brisbane for the start of this year’s campaign for the Salver.

With a combination of both experience, recent and new additions, our team is made up of Sai Lenz – 4.7 (Cairns), Marion Wright – 5 (Half Moon Bay), Erina Williams – 5.9 (Cairns), Jacque Lambert – 8.9 (Mareeba), Christelle Prinsloo – 9.4 (Cairns) and newcomer to the team Carly Jack – 12.9 (Mossman), with Captain – Katrin Nash (Kapten Katrin) and Manager Liz Zakarevicius (Liz Zak). Our team is well supported this year with several caddies joining the team, Ana Musudroka, caddying for her Mum Sai, Alice Nurthen caddying for Erina and Kim Edwards caddying for her daughter Carly. Liz Zak is also doubling up on duties caddying for Marion.

Sunday evening saw all the teams meet for the Welcome Dinner, always a highlight of the tournament with each of the teams performing their team song to start off the week. The FNQ Froggies pulled off a splendid performance of “Frogs in the House”, with all agreeing it was the song of the night!

After the fun of the previous evening, our girls were straight down to business Monday 11th 7.30am with our first match against Downs and South Western. With only 5 girls playing in each match Sai sat out, instead caddying for Jacque, playing number 3. Carly experienced her first match in the Meg Nunn tournament playing in the number 5 position. The rest of the team was Marion playing 1, Erina playing 2 and Christelle playing at 4.

It was a great start to the tournament for the FNQ Froggies with all girls winning their matches. With a bye in the afternoon they took a well earned early mark, giving plenty of time to prepare for Tuesday, where we play Brisbane and District in the morning and Gold Coast in the afternoon.
